Will Hobbs ist ein bekannter Autor, der zahlreiche Romane für Leser der Oberen Elementarschule, der Mittelschule und der jungen Erwachsenen sowie zwei Bilderbuchgeschichten verfasst hat. Seine Schriftstellerkarriere begann mit der Veröffentlichung seines ersten Buches, "Changes in Latitudes", im Jahr 1988. Seitdem hat Hobbs siebzehn Romane verfasst, wovon sieben von der American Library Association (ALA) als Best Books for Young Adults ausgezeichnet wurden.
Zwei von Hobbs' Romanen, "Far North" und "Downriver", fanden sich in der Liste der 100 Best Young Adult Books des 20. Jahrhunderts der ALA wieder. Des Weiteren wurde "Ghost Canoe" im Jahr 1998 mit dem Edgar Allan Poe Award für das Beste Jugendmystery ausgezeichnet. Die Bücher von Hobbs sind bekannt für ihre spannenden Outdoor-Abenteuer-Themen, die Jungen und Mädchen gleichermaßen ansprechen. Durch seine Geschichten entdecken Leser:innen wilde Orte, teilen Abenteuer mit Menschen aus verschiedenen Hintergründen und erforschen, wie sie wichtige Entscheidungen in ihrem eigenen Leben treffen können.
Hobbs besuchte die Stanford University und war ein ehemaliger Lehrer für Lesen und Sprachkunst. Er ist hauptberuflicher Schriftsteller seit 1990 und lebt derzeit mit seiner Frau Jean in Durango, Colorado. Die Bücher von Hobbs wurden mit zahlreichen Preisen ausgezeichnet, darunter der California Young Reader Medal, der Western Writers of America Spur Award, der Mountains and Plains Booksellers Award, der Colorado Book Award und Nominierungen für staatliche Auswahllisten in mehr als dreißig Staaten. Trotz vieler Lorbeeren bleibt Hobbs ein geschätzter und respektierter Autor im Genre der Jugendliteratur.
