Thomas H. Cook ist ein renommierter US-amerikanischer Autor, der für seine Mystery- und Spannungsromane bekannt ist. Er wurde 1947 in Fort Payne, Alabama, geboren und erwarb Abschlüsse als Bachelor und Master in Amerikanischer Geschichte am Georgia State College und Hunter College. Später promovierte er an der Columbia University. Cooks Schriftstellerkarriere begann, als er vier Jahre lang als Buchrezensionslektor für Atlanta Magazine arbeitete. Anschließend wechselte er zum Vollzeit-Schreiben von Fiktion.
Cooks Schreiben wurde für seine Aufmerksamkeit für Psychologie und die lyrische Qualität seines Prosastils gelobt. Er hat über 30 Romane verfasst, darunter Werke über wahre Verbrechen. Sein Debütroman, Blood Innocents, wurde 1980 veröffentlicht. In den 1980er Jahren veröffentlichte Cook kontinuierlich und schrieb die Frank Clemons-Trilogie, eine Reihe von Kriminalromanen mit einem zynischen Cop. Cooks Durchbruch gelang mit The Chatham School Affair, veröffentlicht 1996, der den Edgar Award für den besten Roman gewann. Zusätzlich zu seinen Kriminalromanen hat Cook auch zwei true-crime-Bücher verfasst, darunter das Edgar-nominierte Blood Echoes.
