Peter Robinson war ein gefeierter Autor, der vor allem für seine Kriminalromane bekannt ist. Er wurde in Yorkshire, England, geboren und erwarb seinen BA-Ehrendoktortitel in Englischer Literatur an der Universität Leeds. Später zog er nach Kanada, wo er einen MA in Englischer Literatur und Kreativem Schreiben an der Universität von Windsor und einen PhD in Englischer Literatur an der York University abschloss. Robinson hatte eine erfolgreiche Lehrlaufbahn, er unterrichtete an verschiedenen Community Colleges und Universitäten in Toronto. Zudem war er Writer-in-Residence an der University of Windsor von 1992 bis 1993.
Robinson ist für seine Inspector-Alan-Banks-Reihe berühmt, die in über 15 Sprachen übersetzt und in mehrere Fernsehsendungen adaptiert wurde. Die Reihe spielt in einer fiktionalen Stadt in Yorkshire und stellt DCI Alan Banks vor. Obwohl Robinson verschiedene Kurzgeschichten, Romane, Gedichte und Essays verfasst hat, erlangte ihn seine Inspector-Alan-Banks-Reihe den meisten Ruhm. Sein kreatives Talent brachte ihm zahlreiche Auszeichnungen ein, darunter den Ellis Award für den Besten Roman in den Jahren 1992, 1997 und 2001, den Anthony Award für den Besten Roman im Jahr 2000 und den Barry Award für den Besten Roman im Jahr 2000.
Neben der Inspector-Alan-Banks-Reihe hat Robinson mehrere eigenständige Romane verfasst, darunter "Before the Poison", der 2013 den IMBA's Dilys Award und den 2012 Arthur Ellis Award für den Besten Roman der Kriminalautoren von Kanada gewann. Robinsons von der Kritik gefeierte DCI-Banks-Romane haben zahlreiche Auszeichnungen in Großbritannien, den USA, Kanada und Europa gewonnen und werden weltweit in Übersetzungen veröffentlicht. 2020 wurde Robinson zum Grand Master by the Crime Writers of Canada ernannt.
Leider verstarb Peter Robinson im Jahr 2022. Vor seinem Tod teilte er seine Zeit zwischen Richmond, UK, und Kanada auf. Die Beiträge Robinsons zum Krimi-Genre sind unbestreitbar, und seine Werke werden weiterhin Leser auf der ganzen Welt fesseln.
