Nelson Richard DeMille ist ein bekannter amerikanischer Schriftsteller, geboren am 23. August 1943 in Jamaica, Queens, New York. Er ist der Sohn von Huron DeMille, einem Bauunternehmer, und seiner Frau Antonia Panzera. DeMilles Familie zog nach Long Island, als er ein Kind war, wo er die Elmont Memorial High School besuchte und eine Leidenschaft für Football und Leichtathletik entwickelte.
Nach seinem Highschool-Abschluss verbrachte DeMille drei Jahre an der Hofstra University, bevor er in die Armee eintrat. Er besuchte die Offiziersschule und wurde zum Leutnant im United States Army ernannt, wo er von 1966-69 diente. DeMille war in Vietnam im Einsatz und diente als Zugführer der First Cavalry Division. Er wurde mit dem Air Medal, der Bronze Star und der Vietnamesischen Kreuz der Tapferkeit ausgezeichnet. Nach seiner Entlassung kehrte er an die Hofstra University zurück und erwarb seinen Bachelor-Abschluss in Politikwissenschaft und Geschichte. Er hat drei Kinder und lebt derzeit auf Long Island.
DeMille ist am bekanntesten für seine Thriller und Kriminalromane, zu denen "The General's Daughter", "The Gold Coast" und die John Corey-Serie gehören. Obwohl er hauptsächlich in diesem Genre schreibt, hat er auch unter Pseudonymen in die Non-Fiction-Literatur eingedrungen. Viele seiner Werke sind auf Long Island angesiedelt, wo er aufwuchs. Sein erster großer Roman, "By the Rivers of Babylon", wurde 1978 veröffentlicht und ist immer noch im Druck, zusammen mit all seinen nachfolgenden Werken.
DeMille ist Mitglied verschiedener Berufsorganisationen, darunter American Mensa, The Authors Guild und International Thriller Writers. Er war Präsident der Mystery Writers of America und ist Mitglied des Vorstands des Book-of-the-Month Club. Er hat drei Ehrendoktorwürden von der Hofstra University, der Long Island University und der Dowling College erhalten. 2015 wurde DeMille von International Thriller Writers zum ThrillerMaster of the Year gewählt. Er hat auch Kurzgeschichten zu Anthologien und Buchbesprechungen sowie Artikel und Artikel zu Zeitschriften und Zeitungen beigetragen.
