John Connolly ist ein preisgekrönter irischer Schriftsteller, der hauptsächlich für seine Kriminalromane bekannt ist. Er wurde 1968 in Dublin, Irland, geboren und hatte verschiedene Jobs, wie zum Beispiel als Journalist, Barkeeper, Mitarbeiter in der örtlichen Verwaltung, Kellner und als Hilfskraft bei den Harrods-Kaufhaus in London. Connolly studierte Englisch am Trinity College in Dublin und Journalismus an der Dublin City University. Er arbeitete fünf Jahre als freiberuflicher Journalist für The Irish Times Zeitung, für die er weiterhin schreibt. Derzeit ist er in Dublin ansässig, verbringt aber einen Teil seiner Zeit zwischen Irland und den Vereinigten Staaten.
Connolly ist der Autor der Charlie Parker-Reihe von Kriminalromanen, seiner bekanntesten Arbeit. Die Reihe handelt von einem ehemaligen Polizisten, Charlie Parker, der den Mörder seiner Frau und seiner Tochter sucht. Der erste Roman der Reihe, Every Dead Thing, wurde 1999 veröffentlicht, und der elfte Roman, The Wrath of Angels, wird im August 2012 im Vereinigten Königreich und im Januar 2013 in den USA erhältlich sein. Neben der Charlie Parker-Reihe hat Connolly auch mehrere eigenständige Romane und einige übernatürliche Kurzgeschichten geschrieben. Einige seiner eigenständigen Romane wurden für den Film adaptiert. Connollys Genres umfassen Kriminalromane, Horror, Science-Fiction, Drama und Fantasy. Er hat auch eine Reihe von Jugendbüchern geschrieben, die Samuel Johnson-Reihe, die Titel wie The Gates und Hell's Bells (UK)/The Infernals (US) umfasst. Ein dritter Samuel Johnson-Roman wird für 2013 erwartet.
