James W. Hall ist ein erfolgreicher US-amerikanischer Autor, der durch seine Spannungs-Thriller und die Thorn-PI-Reihe bekannt ist. Geboren in New York, zog Hall später nach Florida, wo er einen Master in kreativem Schreiben von der Johns Hopkins University und einen Doktor in Literatur von der University of Utah erwarb. Seitdem teilt er seine Zeit zwischen Süd-Florida und North Carolina mit seiner Frau Evelyn und ihren drei Hunden.
Neben seiner erfolgreichen Thorn-Reihe hat Hall zahlreiche Standalone-Romane, Drehbücher, Gedichtsammlungen, Kurzgeschichtenanthologien und Sachbücher verfasst. Seine Werke wurden in mehr als einem Dutzend Sprachen übersetzt, was seine globale Anziehungskraft unterstreicht. Zu seinen vielen Auszeichnungen gehören der prestigeträchtige Edgar und Shamus Awards sowie der John D. MacDonald Award für Exzellenz in der Florida-Fiktion.
Als engagierter Pädagoge hat Hall sein Wissen an Schüler von Fulbright in Spanien und der Florida International University weitergegeben, wo er 40 Jahre lang unterrichtete. Während seiner Amtszeit hat er zahlreiche aufstrebende Autoren wie Vicky Hendricks, Christine Kling, Barbara Parker und Dennis Lehane gefördert und inspiriert.
