Jacqueline Carey ist eine hoch angesehene US-amerikanische Autorin, die vor allem für ihre Fantasy-Romane bekannt ist. Sie wurde 1964 in Highland Park, Illinois, geboren und erwarb später einen Bachelor of Arts in Psychologie und Englischer Literatur am Lake Forest College. Careys Interesse, Schriftstellerin zu werden, wurde während ihres College-Aufenthalts geweckt, als sie sechs Monate in einem kleinen Buchladen in London arbeitete, was Teil eines Work-Exchange-Programms war. Diese Erfahrung veranlasste sie, sich entschlossen, eine professionelle Autorin und Schriftstellerin zu werden.
Nach ihrer Rückkehr in die Vereinigten Staaten begann Carey ihre Schriftstellerkarriere, während sie in einem Kunstzentrum einer örtlichen Hochschule arbeitete. In den nächsten zehn Jahren perfektionierte sie ihr Handwerk und baute ihre Karriere auf, bevor sie mit der Veröffentlichung ihres ersten Buches im Jahr 2001 einen bedeutenden Erfolg erzielte. Careys Schreiben konzentriert sich hauptsächlich auf Fantasy-Literatur und sie hat mehrere beliebte Serien verfasst, darunter die New York Times Bestseller-Historien-Fantasy-Serie Kushiel's Legacy, die epische Fantasy-Duologie The Sundering, die postmodernen Fabeln "Santa Olivia" und "Saints Astray" und die Agent-of-Hel-Contemporary-Fantasy-Serie. Carey lebt derzeit in Westmichigan und ist Mitglied der ältesten Mardi-Gras-Krewe des Staates. Entgegen der landläufigen Meinung hat sie keine Tätowierungen.
