Graham Masterton ist ein produktiver britischer Autor, der vor allem für seine Horror-Werke bekannt ist, seine Schriftstellerei erstreckt sich jedoch weit darüber hinaus. Er hat mehr als hundert Bücher geschrieben, darunter auch Non-Fiction-Werke und Pseudonyme. Geboren in Edinburgh, Schottland, im Jahr 1946, wurde Masterton in einer Familie von Wissenschaftlern und Intellektuellen aufgezogen. Sein Großvater, Thomas Thorne Baker, war ein angesehener Wissenschaftler, der DayGlo erfand und der erste Mann war, der Nachrichtenfotos drahtlos übertrug.
Nach seiner Ausbildung zum Zeitungsreporter arbeitete Masterton als Redakteur für das britische Männermagazin Mayfair. In dieser Zeit ermutigte er William Burroughs, eine Reihe wissenschaftlicher und philosophischer Artikel zu entwickeln, die schließlich Burroughs' Roman The Wild Boys wurden. Später, im Alter von 24 Jahren, wurde Masterton zum Chefredakteur der Zeitschriften Penthouse und Penthouse Forum ernannt. Diese Position gab ihm die Möglichkeit, eine Bestseller-Serie von Sex-"Anleitungs"-Büchern zu starten, darunter "How To Drive Your Man Wild In Bed", die weltweit mehr als 3 Millionen Mal verkauft wurde.
Mastersons Debüt als Horror-Autor begann mit "The Manitou" im Jahr 1976, einer unheimlichen Geschichte über einen wiedergeborenen nordamerikanischen Medizinmann in der Gegenwart, der seinen Rachefeldzug gegen den weißen Mann plant. Das Buch wurde sofort zum Bestseller und wurde mit Tony Curtis, Susan Strasberg, Burgess Meredith und anderen verfilmt. Seitdem hat er mehr als 35 Horrorromane veröffentlicht, darunter "Charnel House", das mit einem besonderen Edgar Award von den Mystery Writers of America ausgezeichnet wurde; "Mirror", das mit einem Silbermedaillon von den West Coast Review of Books ausgezeichnet wurde; und "Family Portrait", eine Überarbeitung von Oscar Wildes Erzählung "The Picture of Dorian Gray", die der einzige Nicht-Franzose ist, der den prestigeträchtigen Prix Julia Verlanger in Frankreich gewonnen hat.
Mastertons Horrorromane weisen häufig Elemente des Übernatürlichen auf und sind für ihre graphische Gewalt und sexuellen Inhalte bekannt. Er hat auch historische Fiktion, Thriller und Kriminalromane, sowie Serien wie Harry Erskine, Night Warriors, Jim Rook und andere verfasst. Derzeit wohnt er in Surrey, England.
