Gene Wolfe

Gene Wolfe ist ein hoch angesehener US-amerikanischer Autor, der für seine Werke in den Genres Science-Fiction und Fantasy berühmt ist. Er ist am besten bekannt für seine Serie, den Urth/Solar-Zyklus, die durch seine dichte und anspielungsreiche Prosa und den Einfluss seiner katholischen Religion gekennzeichnet ist. Wolfe's Schreibstil wird oft für seine Komplexität gelobt, mit ersten-Person-Erzählern, die manchmal unzuverlässig sind, was Tiefe und Rätsel zu seinen Geschichten hinzufügt.

Gene Wolfe wurde am 7. Mai 1931 in New York City geboren und wuchs in Texas auf. Als Säugling überlebte er die Kinderlähmung, was einen nachhaltigen Einfluss auf sein Leben hatte. Nach seinem Dienst im Koreakrieg kehrte er in die Vereinigten Staaten zurück und erwarb einen Abschluss an der University of Houston. Wolfe's berufliche Laufbahn begann als Ingenieur, aber seine Leidenschaft für das Schreiben führte ihn dazu, viele Jahre lang die Zeitschrift Plant Engineering zu redigieren, bevor er sich zur Ruhe setzte, um Vollzeit zu schreiben.

Im Laufe seiner Karriere erhielt Wolfe zahlreiche Auszeichnungen für seine Beiträge zur Science-Fiction und Fantasy-Literatur. Dazu gehören mehrere Nebula, Locus und World Fantasy Awards sowie der World Fantasy Award für Lebenswerk und der Damon Knight Memorial Grand Master Award 2012. 2007 wurde er in die Science Fiction Hall of Fame aufgenommen. Die bedeutende Wirkung von Wolfe auf das Genre ist offensichtlich an den Anerkennungen, die er erhalten hat, und sichert ihm einen Platz unter den Legenden der Science-Fiction und Fantasy.
