Brenda Jackson ist eine angesehene amerikanische Autorin, die besonders für ihre Liebesromane und Frauenliteratur bekannt ist. Sie wurde 1953 in Jacksonville, Florida, geboren und dort auch aufgezogen. Später besuchte sie die Jacksonville University und erwarb einen Abschluss in Betriebswirtschaftslehre.
Jackson begann ihre Schriftstellerkarriere 1995 mit der Veröffentlichung ihres ersten Buches „Tonight and Forever“. Seitdem hat sie über 100 Romane und Novellen veröffentlicht und ist damit die erste afro-amerikanische Autorin, der ein solcher Erfolg gelungen ist. Ihre Werke wurden weit verbreitet gelesen, mit über 3 Millionen verkauften Exemplaren. Jackson ist auch die erste afro-amerikanische Autorin, die ein Buch bei Harlequin Desire veröffentlicht hat, und die erste afro-amerikanische Autorin von Liebesromanen, die es auf die Bestsellerliste der New York Times und USA TODAY im Bereich der Serienromane geschafft hat.
Die Schriften von Jackson sind insbesondere für die Darstellung vielfältiger Charaktere und ethnischer Gruppen bekannt. Als sie mit dem Lesen von Liebesromanen begann, bemerkte sie ein Mangel an Repräsentation und wurde inspiriert, ihre eigenen Romane mit diverseren Charakteren zu schreiben. Sie hat seitdem mehrere verschiedene Serien verfasst, darunter die Madaris Family, Westmorelands, Steele und Bachelors in Demand Series.
2012 erhielt Jackson den Nora Roberts Lifetime Achievement Award der Romance Writers of America, eine der höchsten literarischen Auszeichnungen, die eine Autorin von Liebesromanen erhalten kann. 2013 wurde sie von dem Bürgermeister und der Stadt Jacksonville als Pionierin im literarischen Bereich anerkannt. Jackson hat auch mit Five Alive Films zusammengearbeitet, um ihren Roman Truly Everlasting in ein Spielfilm zu verwandeln, und ihr Roman A Silken Thread von 2011 ist für eine Verfilmung mit Debbie Allen als Regisseurin geplant. Im Jahr 2020 gründete sie eine Partnerschaft mit Hollywoods Bobby Smith, Jr., um mehr ihrer Bücher auf die Leinwand zu bringen.
