Arthur C. Clarke

Sir Arthur C. Clarke war ein englischer Autor und Erfinder, der vor allem für seine Arbeit im Science-Fiction-Genre bekannt ist. Er wurde am 16. Dezember 1917 in Minehead, England geboren und gilt als einer der "Big Three" der Science-Fiction, zusammen mit Isaac Asimov und Robert A. Heinlein. Clarke ist am bekanntesten für seinen Roman "2001: A Space Odyssey", den er ebenfalls zusammen mit Stanley Kubrick für den Film co-autorisierte.

Die akademische Karriere von Clarke ist ebenso beeindruckend wie seine Schreibkarriere. Er erwarb erste Klasse Ehren in Physik und Mathematik am King's College, London. Seine Beiträge zur Wissenschaft und Technologie gehen über die Literatur hinaus, da er auch Erfinder und Zukunftsforscher ist. Clarke ist mit vielen Organisationen verbunden, darunter als ehemaliger Vorsitzender der Interplanetary Society und als Mitglied der Academy of Astronautics, der Royal Astronomical Society und vieler anderer Organisationen.

Im Laufe seiner Karriere hat Clarke zahlreiche Auszeichnungen für seine Beiträge zur Wissenschaft und Literatur erhalten. Diese Auszeichnungen umfassen den Kalinga-Preis von 1961, den American Association for the Advancement Westinghouse Prize, den Bradford Washburn Award und den John W. Campbell Award für seinen Roman "Rendezvous with Rama". Clarke hat auch den Nebula Award of the Fiction of America in den Jahren 1972, 1974 und 1979, den Hugo Award der World Fiction Convention in den Jahren 1974 und 1980 gewonnen. Im Jahr 1986 wurde er zum Großmeister der Fiction of America ernannt. Die Beiträge von Clarke zur Literatur und Wissenschaft wurden von der britischen Monarchie anerkannt, als er 1989 als Commander of the British Empire zum Ritter geschlagen wurde.
