Alan Brennert ist ein erfahrener amerikanischer Romanautor, Drehbuchautor und TV-Produzent. Geboren im Jahr 1954, begann Brennert seine Karriere als Drehbuchautor im Jahr 1978, indem er zur populären Wonder Woman-Serie beitrug. Später arbeitete er als Editor und schrieb Skripte für die im NBC ausgestrahlte Buck Rogers-Serie.
Bekannt ist Brennert vor allem für seine historischen Romane, darunter Palisades Park, Honolulu und Moloka'i. Moloka'i, veröffentlicht im Jahr 2006, war ein großer Erfolg und gewann den Bookies Award 2006 als Buchclub-Buch des Jahres. Der Roman, der das Leben eines hawaiianischen Mädchens mit Lepra erforscht, hat seit seiner Veröffentlichung über 600.000 Exemplare verkauft und wurde auch zu One Book, One San Diego im Jahr 2012.
Neben seinem Erfolg als Romanautor hatte Brennert eine erfolgreiche Karriere im Fernsehen. Er hat einen Emmy Award und einen People's Choice Award für seine Arbeit als Autor-Produzent der Fernsehserie L.A. Law gewonnen. Seine Kurzgeschichte "Ma Qui" wurde auch mit einem Nebula Award ausgezeichnet. Brennerts neueste Roman, Daughter of Moloka'i, wird von St. Martin's Press am 19. Februar 2019 veröffentlicht. Der Roman erzählt die Geschichte von Ruth, der Tochter von Rachel Kalama, und ihrer Begegnung mit ihrer leiblichen Mutter, Rachel, und wird die 22-jährige Beziehung der Frauen erkunden.
